First Try with Jacquard Dye

I tried dyeing with Jacquard acid dyes for the first time today. The results weren't quite what I expected, but it was fun!

It was all highly experimental -- I guessed on the amounts of dye and citric acid to use, and I wound up adding more dye to the mix twice when I wasn't sure I liked how the color was going. I'm glad I did, even if my big sample got a bit speckled in the process. I added more lilac the first time, and then took out the dupioni before adding a bit of black to the mix. The original cream color caused it to turn to more of a heather purple color than the rest.

They were all the loveliest, richest shade of purple when they were wet. I knew they would lighten when they dried but I didn't know it would be this much. Next time: MOAR DYE.

I was pleased to see that when they dried, they'd dyed evenly but not too evenly -- they still had a hand-dyed look to them. I'm not entirely sure what happened to the big sample to make those dark lines, but I'm assuming those parts were at the surface when I added the black dye. It's still attractive, at any rate.
