Runescape Dragon Chainmaille by Kithplana Runescape Dragon Chainmaille by Kithplana
12/21/10: HEY YOU. I made this D-chain back in the good old days of Runescape. Like this? Bring the good old days back -- vote at [link] (runescape.com/wilderness) to bring the wildy and free trade back!

7/17/08 - Woot! After waiting a year and pretty much giving up on ever getting in the gallery, I'm surprised with
[link] :D

I finally did it. I've got the improvements to the D-chain done. :D This is the same one as before, only... different. I've shaped the body to fit me a bit better, and added the shoulder bits with super curvy spikes. Stats are 16g 5/16" anodized aluminum for the body, The Ring Lord's small anodized scales for the shoulders, and 18g 3/16" red anodized aluminum to hold the scales together. The necklace is a glory ammy, of course, and the keris dagger (sadly) isn't my work. It weighs in at a bit under four pounds (yay aluminum), and I estimate 12,000 rings went into it.

For the curious, materials for this cost me about $200. Time and patience make it add up to much more. ;)

Wow, that's amazing inlay work. I've tried doing some myself, but putting soft silver and brass wire right in the middle of about 15 pounds of 16-gauge steel resulted in the links just popping apart or streching from the sheer weight. Should have used aluminum, or maybe added it as a "patch" over the top. Will have to experiment.

Looks pretty badass. Did you forge the mail yourself?

how did you do the spikes on the shoulders and where did you get them?

I don't recall where I got them, but it doesn't matter because I think they closed several years ago. They're screw-type spikes and you should be able to find them in several places around the internet. I believe I left out some scales in the shoulders where I wanted the spikes to be, and screwed them into the hole in the next scale (which otherwise would have been covered).

Arms then head. Getting it off involves touching your toes and letting gravity do the work :)

This looks so damn cool, RS's simple designs seem to be ripe for the costuming/cosplaying community, especially ones who lean towards medieval/Renaissance subject matter.
Though the updated graphic for this chain body looks fantastic, I kinda miss the old black chest symbol and spiked shoulder plates. It looks really fantastic when made realistically. The question is, will you ever attempt the newest design? ;)

Ahh, probably not. RS is in the past for me and I can't even remember what the new chain looks like. It's been good times, though.

I forget the name of the place, but they're just screw-on spikes -- shouldn't be too hard to find online.

Can't say much, as I haven't played regularly in a few years. I'm glad they brought back free trade, but that's about all I know about recent events. I could tell kids to get off my lawn all day, though -- I remember not being able to cross from Misthalin into Asgarnia because Asgarnia didn't exist yet ;)

But... but... my childhood memories!

I do have a friend who keeps up with the news, and he says it's become... ridiculous. I hear things like microtransactions, the Book of Faces, and being able to pour real world money in for in-game gambling...

no one really uses them, apart from my bf when he went a head and bought himself some hi-lighted hair like he gets in RL during summer and a a type of armour customisation (it gives no stat bonuses and cant be sold in game on the GE or traded), and u can get the book of faces for free, even if you dont have a FB.

Enough to keep me motivated to work on it alongside work and all my other random activities -- would be upwards of a thousand dollars, depending on the size of the shirt and fineness of the rings. Your better bet is to make it yourself, as the process is more tedious than complicated. I can PM you with details I've written up for the various inquirers over the years, if that interests you.
